Asbestos Model Accreditation Courses

Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor - Initial

This course is offered for EPA accreditation for those persons who supervise
activities with respect to friable ACBM in schools or public and
commercial buildings. Course material is presented through lectures, and
hands-on training. In addition to various in-class lectures for supervisory
techniques, contract documents, air sampling data and insurance/liability
issues; hands-on training will include a field exercise for containment
activities, respiratory fit testing procedures, activities related to protective
clothing and glove bag procedures. In addition to meeting the
EPA/AHERA requirements, this course is inclusive to meet OSHA
asbestos competent person requirements.

Course Length: 5-days

Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor – Refresher

This annual refresher training for the Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor
includes a review of the initial course plus any available new information
regarding regulations and work practices.

Course Length: 1-day

Asbestos Inspector - Initial

This course will meet the qualifications for the EPA/AHERA accreditation
for individuals who inspect for asbestos containing building materials
(ACBM) in s
chools or public and commercial buildings. The course
includes information on: asbestos background data, potential health risks
and effects; functions, qualifications and the role of the inspector; regulatory
information, legal liabilities, inspection procedures, sampling and
documentation of asbestos, respiratory fit testing procedures, 4 hours of
hands-on training, and other data.

Course Length: 3-days

Asbestos Inspector - Refresher

In addition to an overview of the Asbestos Inspector initial course, the
lecture covers the latest updates available. The refresher course also
meets the annual EPA/AHERA reaccreditation requirements.

Course Length: 4 hours

Asbestos Management Planner - Initial

(Prerequisite: Asbestos Inspector 3-day course)
This course is developed for those individuals currently accredited as
Asbestos Inspectors who will primarily develop asbestos management
plans to address asbestos containing building materials (ACBM) in
schools, and potentially for public and commercial buildings. Lectures
cover evaluation of inspection survey results, hazard assessments, control
options, development of the management plan document, cost estimating
and other EPA topics.

Course Length: 2-days

Asbestos Management Planner - Refresher

In addition to an overview of the Asbestos Management Planner initial
course, the lecture covers the latest updates available. This refresher
course meets the annual EPA/AHERA reaccreditation requirements.

Course Length: 4 hours

Asbestos Project Designer - Initial

By means of lectures this course will present material to provide EPA
accreditation for individuals to design response actions with respect to
friable ACBM in schools or public and commercial buildings; and provide
an understanding of cost estimating and contracts for the abatement
project. This course includes overview material from both the inspector
and management planner disciplines plus overview of abatement construction
projects, the final clearance process, safety systems design
specifications, and design of abatement solutions and additional information.

Course Length: 3-days

Asbestos Project Designer – Refresher

Information presented by lectures in this course is designed to offer the
required EPA annual refresher of the initial 3-day course, and provide
information regarding any new regulations or technology.

Course Length: 1-day

Asbestos Project Monitor – Initial

EPA recommends that States adopt training and accreditation requirements
for persons seeking to perform work as project monitors. Project
monitors observe abatement activities performed by contractors and generally
serve as a building owner’s representative to ensure that abatement
work is completed according to specification and compliance with all
relevant statutes and regulations. They may also perform air monitoring
for determining final clearance. Presented through lectures and hands-on
training the course covers the roles and responsibilities of the project
monitor; characteristics of asbestos and asbestos containing materials;
Federal, State and local regulations; understanding building and building
construction; response actions and abatement practices; asbestos abatement
equipment; personal protection equipment; legal responsibilities;
and other topics

Course Length: 5-days

Asbestos Project Monitor – Refresher

This annual refresher training for the Asbestos Project Monitor includes
a review of the initial course plus any available new information regarding
regulations and work practices.

Course Length: 1-day

NIOSH 582 Equivalent

Course lectures for this course cover procedures for collecting and analyzing
asbestos air samples (by phase contrast microscopy, PCM). Included in the

course are topics covering sample collection procedures, sample preparation, microscope usage, analytical methods and quality control methods. A microscope will be provided as part of the hands-on instruction. This course is designed to meet the requirements of 29 CFR 1926.1101 and 1910.1001.

Asbestos Worker - Initial

This course includes instruction for asbestos background information,
work practices, respiratory protection, health effects, medical monitoring,
and regulatory overview as necessary for the EPA/AHERA accreditation
requirements for workers performing activities with respect to friable
ACBM in schools or public and commercial buildings. Classroom instruction
includes respiratory fit testing procedures and hands-on training.

Course Length: 4-days

Asbestos Worker - Refresher

This is the annual EPA accredited refresher for personnel with the initial
Asbestos Worker accreditation. The course includes an overview of the
initial course and any new information regarding regulatory updates or
work techniques.

Course Length: 1-day

OSHA Class II Training

This course is for individuals requiring training for the removal
of asbestos containing material that is not thermal system insulation or surfacing material, such as wallboard; floor tile and sheeting; roofing and siding. Course training includes review of the OSHA standards for asbestos; methods of recognizing asbestos; health effects of asbestos exposure; engineering controls and proper work practices; respiratory protection and respirator use; medical surveillance requirements and other information. Course includes hands-on training. Note: If the Class II operations include the use of critical barriers and/or negative pressure enclosures, training must meet OSHA Class I training criteria above.

OSHA Class III Asbestos Operation & Maintenance Training

This course is designed for individuals who may disturb asbestos containing
materials during routine maintenance or emergency repair operations. This course includes instruction on asbestos background information; review of the OSHA standards for asbestos; health effects of asbestos exposure; containment methods and work practices; respiratory protection and respirator use; medical surveillance requirements; and overview of applicable regulations. This course also meets EPA/AHERA accreditation requirements for maintenance staff.


Course Length: 2-days


OSHA Class IV Asbestos Awareness

This course is designed for personnel such as janitorial staff that may
come in contact with asbestos containing materials (ACM). It provides
instruction directed at avoiding exposure to ACM and preventing
asbestos contamination including properties and uses of asbestos; and
location and types of asbestos in their facilities. This course also meets
EPA/AHERA accreditation requirements for janitorial staff.
